You claim you sent me evidence, where did it go?

As someone that is both an administrator in some Facebooks groups and Moderator in other Facebook groups it is amazing how many times, I have read that someone has sent me evidence to prove something that I have never received it.

If you are telling an administrator or moderator that you have sent them multiple pieces of evidence to prove your case, please make sure that you have sent it to the person that you are saying this too. Too often an administrator or moderator will receive this type of message only to discover that the person that is say this is sending it to either an entirely different group or someone else that might not be part of the group administration so that isn’t going to help.

There are so many times when someone has tried to tell me that they have sent me evidence and when I ask them to tell me where they have sent the information, they cannot tell me where they sent it. So, if you are trying to spend to an admin or moderator of a group, please make sure that you are sending the information to that person. It would be nice if there was a way to acknowledge that the evidence has been sent to who you think it is being sent too. There are so many times that you can think you are sending a message or evidence to someone and you are sending it to someone that is not relating to the group that you are trying to post to.

I know that I make sure that I check messages through Facebook to ensure that I can see that things that are being sent to me. If you claim that you sent me something I will acknowledge that I have received it especially if it has something to do with a group that I have administer. If you don’t get an acknowledgement that I have received your message it probably means that you haven’t sent it to me, but it has gone to somewhere else.

When you claim that you sent me evidence, please check where it was sent because if I haven’t acknowledged receipt of you message it probably means that I haven’t received your message. So, claiming you sent me evidence without proof that you sent me evidence isn’t a good thing. Next time you tell someone that you have sent them evidence, make sure that you sent the evidence to the correct person.

Facebook

Have you ever looked for something that was a friend on your friend list and suddenly, they aren’t there, and you don’t know why. Well, this recently happened to me, and I am not certain why this person has now blocked me from seeing any of their posts.

On Facebook, there are different ways that you can deal with someone that seems to be sending out all posts. It is nice that there are options on what you see when everyone that you are friends with.

Unfollow

This feature is when you want to still be friends with someone, but you don’t want to see all their posts. I know that I have used this for a couple of friends that were just posting random things, and it was filling up my feed with nothing that was meaningful. You can also use this feature if a person has a different opinion on things than you do and just need a bit of a break from seeing that feed.

Unfriend

Here is the next step, and that is when you no longer want to see anything that this person posts, and you don’t consider them a friend any longer. If you change your mind and want to friend this person again, it is relatively easy as you just send them a friend request again. This is a normal way of handling when you don’t want to be friends with someone any longer.

Block

Here is the final thing that you can do and that is to block a person and by doing this they cannot message you, and they cannot see anything that you post at all. Normally I only use this when someone has done something, and I don’t want them to try and contact me through Facebook again.

For some people, I think they use the block too quickly when just unfriending someone is all that is needed to be done. If you have your Facebook set up that only friends can see your posts, then simply unfriending someone is all you need to do. If you happen to block someone, and you may be able to unblock them if you go into your settings and activity log and connections. You look under friends, there is an area for blocked and that will show you who you have blocked and when.

Having lots of friends on Facebook can be a bit of a challenge but remember you don’t have to live on Facebook all the time and no one should expect you to immediately see their posts in your feed or immediately answer a message that they send you.

Social media

It is amazing how many people think that Facebook is a place where someone else will help them with everything, especially if they are in a group.

I belong to a number of groups on Facebook and have seen some very interesting questions that people have asked. Here are some of the questions that I have seen and some of my thoughts about them:

1. I’m in desperate need of a new project, haven’t crocheted in months! What’s everyone working on?
I immediately see this and think you belong to a group that shows projects that people are working on so why do you have to ask to see things, just scroll down the page, and you will see a lot of projects that are just finished or are being worked on currently.

2. Are there any patterns that would be considered beachy? I searched the site and didn’t see any.
What site are you looking at because this is a Facebook group, but you really didn’t give us enough information? This is something that I have seen very often when someone mentions that they have checked the site, but they don’t say the site they have looked at.

3. Where can I find free patterns?
Now this question is from the Crochet Crowd Social Facebook page, and it does make me laugh because it is a group for people that crochet and know about the Crochet Crowd website. There is an entire Crochet Crowd website, which is identified in the group, that has patterns and a lot of other information provided, so why not check there. My other reply might have been have you googled “free crochet patterns” and what you want to make, or are we supposed to guess what you are looking for.

4. Where can I find tutorials on learning how to crochet?
Now this question is from the Crochet Crowd Social Facebook page, and it does make me laugh because it is a group for people that crochet and know about the Crochet Crowd website. There is an entire website (The Crochet Crowd) that has access to tutorials and a lot of other information provided, so why not check there. Again, the website is identified in the group.

5. Where can I find a pattern to make a shawl for myself?
My immediate answer to this question would have you tried googling for ideas, or have you checked out Ravelry, which is quite often found through the various Google searches? Of course, there are times that I just scroll by these questions because I think it is best, otherwise my answer wouldn’t be very friendly. I understand that when you are in a group, you can get help from other members of the group, but the idea is also not to use the group as your personal Google.

As you can see, there can be some very interesting questions asked within social media and especially Facebook. I understand that not everyone knows how to use Google extremely well, but at least trying to find things and then asking for help is better. I have seen some questions in one group, and they are very clear, and it makes you feel good.

Here is one of those questions:
1. I'm looking for a chart, but I can't remember the name of it or who the artist was. The chart had an owl flying a key to a lock in the ground. It was a relatively recent release. I remember it being a very beautiful chart with lots of soft colours. I've put every keyword I can think of into the search bar, and I am coming up with nothing (though my wish list keeps getting bigger every time I try to find this thing). Can anyone help me out in identifying the chart that doesn't want to be found?
This question was on the Heaven and Earth Design Facebook group and of course the person provided enough information that someone was very quickly able to tell them the name of the patter as well as the designer. This is the type of question that I enjoy seeing because at least it gives enough information so that people know you have done some looking and just need a little bit of help.

Social media is something that a lot of us understand and are part of, but knowing when not to reply to a question that is posted is something that I have learned to do. If you are part of a group and have a question, make sure that you are asking the right type of question and also try and show that you have done some of your own research before asking your question. You will probably be surprised at the type of answer you will get, and it will probably help you a lot more than just asking a general question.

The other thing that really bothers me about some groups is when people ask what is on your hook tonight or spam me with ideas for a baby girl afghan. Both aren’t great for the group because it just means that one thread ends up with a lot of pictures but no descriptions, and they really aren’t very useful. Think before you ask this type of questions because remember with all the various groups there are it can get overwhelming to see all of this type of chatter.

If you are working on something or have finished something, and you think the group would like to see it, go ahead and post it and remember you will probably be asked a few questions about it so if you have to answer them in your original post it makes things a lot easier for everyone.

Social media is something that can be very helpful when you are looking for things, but that is after you have done your own searches. Remember Facebook isn’t a replacement for Google so try that first and then when all else fails ask a question in a group but make sure the question is clear.

Distractions

How many people look back at the end of the day and say where did some of my time go?

I think a lot of people do that and there are a number of reasons why we lose part of our day and don’t realize where it goes. The availability of social media now is making it so easy to stay that I am just going to get something quickly and then get back to work. The quick check really isn’t that quick a check because you can end up wasting a great deal of time either following the articles on Facebook and the various links on Twitter. Yes, there two social media platforms can really take a to of your day away from you without you realizing where the time has gone.

There are a number of companies that block both Facebook and Twitter from being accessible through the business internet and it is only available to those that there are part of their job. I have heard some people complain because they think that they should be able to connect to their social media at any time they want not realizing that it is really taking away from their work time. There are even companies that fawn on the use of a personal smart phone during the work day and that is because that is another way of checking the various social media platforms.

Another distraction that is in the work place is the social conversations that go on either around you and with you involved. These are interruptions that take you away from your actual work and then it takes me some time to get back to what you were doing. Yes, a conversation may only be 5 or 10 minutes but then how long does it take for you to get back and remember exactly what you were doing before that conversation.

Email can be considered a distraction as well as part of your job. What is important is not getting distracted too often when you see that you have a new message. In some cases the best thing to do is not have the notify icon on your desktop so that it isn’t flashing and letting you know that you have new email. If you can get into a routine of checking email at various times during the day and then dealing with all the messages at once you will find you will be able to get more done throughout the day.

Yes there are tons of distractions that can interfere with our work day and we just need to figure out how to manage them. The social media is one thing that really needs to be handled because that can really distract you for a lot of time so if you are at work even if it is allowed through the internet make it your own personal practice to either not check it at all until you are home or only check it during your lunch. Managing the distractions can be a challenge but understanding what they are can make a big difference.
