Remembering the good times

I am sitting here at my desk thinking about you and of all the fun times that we have had. It didn’t matter what we did, we found a way to have fun doing it. A couple hour shopping trip downtown resulted in some laughs because of something that we saw or did. Looking at stuff just for “fun” was something that we quite often did.

We found that we could sit and talk over a cup of coffee, and it was a great way to just spend time together. It didn’t matter that we lived in the same house but going and sitting in a food court and chatting was something that we both enjoyed doing. We would talk about anything while watching people pass by. Of course, we would then see an outfit on someone to be something that we wouldn’t wear, but we would talk about it for a while just because it was something different.

We made tons of Christmas decorations over the years as it was something that we both enjoyed doing. Our tree was always full of different decorations, some that we bought on vacation and others that we made. The memories that those decorations are what made our tree so special over the years. We would decorate the tree together when I was younger and laugh at some of the hand-made decorations because they would bring back memories of making them. As I got older and was working, you would decorate the tree, but then I would come home from work and sit, and we would again talk about all the different hand-made decorations on the tree and around the house.

Growing up and knowing that you were always there for me helped a lot. On my wedding day the photographer asked you to give me a piece of advice and I remember what you said, “You fool” and then started to laugh. That picture is one that I look at and laugh at because I will always remember you saying that to me. It was special because you knew that I was happy and that is all that you wanted me to be.

It’s hard now seeing who you have become, but I know that the mom that I love is still there inside. She still laughs a bit and smiles a bit, but I just need to remember all the good times that we have had through my life. I hope that you still remember all the crazy things we did together because I know those are the things that I remember.

I remember all the good times that we shared.

When the silly things happen

There are times when things happen and all you can do is laugh.

Over the last little while my husband and I have found times to just stand and laugh when sometime happens which wasn’t expected. A lot of these laughs are due to little situations that happened and yes you could get upset about them happening but then it is just easier to laugh it off and see the funny side of the problem.

The situations I am talking about are getting yourself blocked into an area after saying that you are going to be very careful while cleaning up to not block yourself in. Sure enough you are working on the cleaning up and not thinking about the path that you are going to need to get out of an area until you realize that you have blocked yourself in and will need help to clean the spot that you just blocked. I think we have all done things like this and we will do it again even when you try your best not to do it.

Other situations are the simple little things that happen when you are both in the kitchen and trying to get things done but the lid lands in bowl instead of on the counter or the peanut butter jar lands on the toast that you have just put the peanut butter on. Sure a lot of the situations happen and they aren’t expected and you could get upset about what happened but in a lot of ways it is better to just see the humour in the situation and move on. In a lot of cases the reason you laugh is because of the other person’s reaction which is normally that of surprise of what has just happened.

I don’t know how many times either my husband or I have done something and the reaction is why the other person starts to laugh. Of course, the laughter ends up causing both of us to laugh because after the reaction you then also see the silly part of the situation and laugh along with the person that has witnessed the issue happen.

Having the ability to laugh at the times that happen around you is important. Sure you don’t laugh when something happens and someone is injured or when the outcome isn’t that nice. Being able to laugh at the little situations helps everyone as laughter is good medication and I think we need to be able to laugh a little bit more.

A child's laughter

It is so nice sometimes to just listen to a child laugh.

Some children have the laugh that almost certainly will also make you laugh when you hear it. There are some children that will see something very simple and will see the funny side of it and they start laughing and then they can’t spot laughing. Sometimes the laughter is because a parent has made a funny face or noise and the child thinks it’s funny. I love when you can hear a child just laugh because they are so happy about what is going on around them.

As an adult if we were to sit and laugh at some of the sounds that we hear that are a little silly we would probably be looked at like “why are you laughing”. I also think that a child laughing is more excepted as they are so innocent and people are willing to listen to that sound than an adult laughing. Another reason I think more people except a child laughing is public is they are normally a lot quieter than an adult laughing.

An adult laughing out in public is sometimes seen as “look at me” because an adult sometimes makes it known by the volume of their laugh that they are around and want the attention. A child laughing is normally at a lot lower volume and they are just laughing because something is funny to them. They aren’t trying to get attention but just trying to express how they are feeling about something at a given time.

I love listening to especially toddlers laugh because they have such a contagious laugh that it either makes me laugh a little bit yourself or at least smile. The younger the child is when they laugh the more fun it is listening to them. There have also been times when I think a baby is just hearing themselves laugh for the first time and it is the surprise noise out of them that they keep trying to see what it is like.

Next time you are out and about and you hear a child laugh spend a couple of minutes just listening to them. The sound of the child’s laughter can really make you feel so much better especially if you aren’t having the best day. A child laughs when something is funny and not to get attention which is nice.

A child is innocent and their laughter is just that, a sound of someone expressing a feeling about what they see or hear.
